UP Woman Jumps Into Canal With Three Children; All Found Dead With Bodies Tied Together

A woman along with her three children jumped into Ken Canal in UP's Banda after a marital dispute. Their bodies were found tied together.

Following a dispute with her husband, a woman along with her three children jumped into Ken Canal in Uttar Pradesh’s Banda district on Saturday. Hours later, four bodies tied together were recovered from the water body, news agency PTI reported.

The deceased have been identified as Reena (30) and her three children – Himanshu (9), Anshi (5) and Prince (3).

Following the recovery, the husband, Akhilesh Aarkh of Risoura village, was taken into custody for questioning, police said.

PTI cited Additional Superintendent of Police Shivraj as saying that on Saturday morning, police received information that Reena and her three kids had gone missing from house.

Soon after, police and Reena’s family members began looking for them. Later, they found Reena’s bangles and some of the children’s clothes on the bank of the Ken Canal, about a km from the village, PTI reported.

Suspecting that the woman had jumped into the canal, authorities stopped the water flow, and with the help of local divers and police teams, set up nets to locate the bodies.

Around 4 pm, the bodies of the woman and her children were recovered, still bound together, Shivraj said.

The bodies were sent for postmortem, said police.

Police were interrogating Akhilesh to ascertain further details of the incident. More details are awaited.
