UP worker killed, 4 hurt as pole touches power line in Dehradun

Dehradun: A 31-year-old worker from UP’s Amroha district was killed and four others sustained serious injuries after an electricity pole they were installing came into contact with an 11kV power line near Om City in Patel Nagar, officials said on Tuesday.The victim, Umesh Kumar, died on the spot on Sunday. Four other workers, who are yet to be identified, suffered severe burn injuries and were rushed to a private hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.All five were employed through a contractor engaged by a private company executing a project under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), a centrally sponsored programme aimed at strengthening power distribution infrastructure.Patel Nagar police station SHO Vinod Gusain said the body was sent for post-mortem and later handed over to the family. “We are investigating whether adequate safety measures were in place at the site and whether protocols for carrying out work near live power lines were followed,” he said. Officials said no formal complaint had been lodged in the matter so far.
