US Iran War News Live Updates: US President Donald Trump claimed that a peace deal aimed at ending the conflict with Iran could be signed on Sunday. However, Iran has remained cautious and has not echoed the same stance about the agreement.
Speaking about the proposed deal, Trump said the Strait of Hormuz — a crucial global oil shipping route — would be reopened to all countries once the deal is signed. He also suggested that the United States would eventually take control of Iran’s nuclear material as part of the arrangement, though no official details have been released.
Iran, however, has played down Trump’s timeline. Officials in Tehran said a deal is not expected to be signed immediately, but acknowledged that an agreement could be reached in the coming days if ongoing negotiations continue to move forward.
While hopes for peace are growing, violence has not completely stopped. Fresh explosions were reported in southern Lebanon as Israeli forces continued military operations in the area. Iran has repeatedly said that any ceasefire or truce agreement must also include Lebanon, arguing that regional stability cannot be achieved without addressing the situation there.
Meanwhile, Iranian media reported that the funeral ceremonies for the country’s late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei will begin in Tehran on July 4. His burial is expected to take place in the holy city of Mashhad on July 9.
