Uthangarai taluk office junior assistant arrested for demanding and taking bribe

KRISHNAGIRI: Sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Thursday arrested a junior assistant at Uthangarai taluk office in Krishnagiri district for demanding and taking a bribe of Rs 3,500 from a man.The arrested junior assistant has been identified as M Jayganesh, 38, of Uthangarai.The complainant is M Venkatachalam of Kotrapatti village in Harur taluk in Dharmapuri district. His relative’s name was not there on his (relative’s) birth certificate, and the date of birth in the certificate was wrong. Venkatachalam applied online on July 25 to get the issues fixed.“On July 29, he approached the Uthangarai sub-registrar's office for this purpose. Junior assistant Jayganesh demanded a bribe of Rs 4,500 to process the application and take further action," said a DVAC officer. Later, Jayganesh reduced the bribe amount to Rs 3,500.Venkatachalam, who did not want to pay the bribe amount, filed a complaint with the Krishnagiri district DVAC. The DVAC set a trap and caught Jayganesh red-handed when he received the bribe.A case was registered against him.
