Delhi BJP MLA Ravinder Singh Negi made an unexpected splash on Monday after slipping into the Yamuna River while filming a video for a river-cleaning awareness drive. The Patparganj legislator was quickly rescued by his team and escaped unhurt.

The incident, caught on camera, shows Negi standing by the banks of the river, holding two bottles, before losing his balance and falling into the water. A man nearby rushes to help but fails to stop his fall, as Negi grabs onto a bamboo structure to pull himself out.

Aam Aadmi Party MLA Sanjeev Jha shared the video on X, taking a swipe at Negi and the BJP. “Making empty promises has become a profession for BJP leaders of the national capital," Jha wrote.

@BJP4India @BJP4Delhi pic.twitter.com/uLcQoVqBwe— Ajit Singh Rathi (@AjitSinghRathi) October 26, 2025

He added sarcastically, “Perhaps fed up with the politics of lies and showing off, Yamuna Maiyya herself called them to her side."

BJP Vs AAP Over Yamuna Water Quality

The video comes amid an escalating political war between Delhi’s ruling BJP and the opposition AAP over the Yamuna’s water quality ahead of the Chhath Puja celebrations.

Earlier, Delhi Water Minister Parvesh Verma claimed that the river’s condition had shown “significant improvement" compared to last year, citing data on faecal coliform bacteria levels.

At ISBT, the bacterial count dropped from 28,000 units in 2024 to 8,000 this year, while it declined from 18 lakh to 2,700 units at Okhla and from 22 lakh to 1,600 at Agra Canal.

Verma credited the improvement to the government’s efforts, including the removal of 20 lakh metric tonnes of silt from key drains to improve water flow and reduce pollution.

In response, AAP’s Delhi unit president Saurabh Bhardwaj posted a DPCC report dated October 23, claiming the Yamuna water remained unfit for bathing and contained alarming levels of human waste.
