Chaos erupted outside a clothing store in Punjab’s Ludhiana after a video claiming shirts were being sold for just Rs 13 on the occasion of Gurpurab went viral on social media platforms. The viral video prompted hundreds of people to gather outside the shop even before it opened, leading to massive overcrowding, panic and eventually police intervention.

As per reports, a YouTuber uploaded a promotional video in which Indradeep Singh, owner of a clothing store named Style Fashion World in Ludhiana’s Dugri area, claimed that customers could pick any shirt in the store- including denim, checks and designer pieces- and buy it for ₹13 on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti. The video also showed him offering guarantees on the products, further boosting the response.

Attracted by the offer, hundreds of people reached the shop on Tuesday, leading to chaos in the area. Seeing such a massive crowd, the shop owner allegedly backed out of providing the offer. People claimed that he said the price applied only to the first 50 customers, something they insist was not mentioned in the video. When the crowd became restless, the shop owner closed the shop and left.

This angered the people, who accused him of misleading them with a false promotional post. The situation escalated to such an extent that the police had to be called in to control the crowd.

A woman who reached the shop as early as 7 am told Bhaskar, “We came after watching the video which said ₹13 shirts for everyone. But once we reached, we were told only 50 people will get the offer. We waited for hours without food or water. The shopkeeper fooled us."

However, the shopkeeper defended himself, saying the situation escalated because the crowd grew far beyond what he expected. He claimed that 1,000 to 1,500 people showed up, blocking entry and causing fights, theft and even minor injuries.

He also clarified that the Rs 13 shirt offer was real, but it was limited only for the first 50 customers. He added that police advised him to stop the sale due to lack of crowd management arrangements.

Police are now looking into the matter to determine whether the promotional message was misleading or whether the situation escalated due to a misunderstanding amplified on social media.
