In a recent address, Vice-President CP Radhakrishnan highlighted the remarkable presence of women in academia, pointing out that they represent 60% of graduates and frequently achieve top honors. He emphasized that this emerging trend might call for men to step up and support the call for equal opportunities moving forward.
Agartala: Vice-President CP Radhakrishnan on Sunday said as women continue to excel in education and other domains, a time may come when men will need to advocate for equal opportunities.Speaking at an event for ‘Lakhpati Didis’, a gathering of members from self-help groups (SHGs) and women entrepreneurs, at International Fair Ground here, he highlighted the stellar academic achievements of women students across various states.Radhakrishnan shared his observations from attending multiple convocation ceremonies, noting that women consistently outperform their male peers. During his visits to states such as Jammu and Kashmir, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Tripura, he noticed more women earning gold medals in universities.
Currently, women constitute about 60% of graduates nationwide. Radhakrishnan said if this trend persists, it could lead to a future where gender inequality may reverse, with men seeking greater opportunities for equality.He encouraged the ‘Lakhpati Didis’ to aim higher, envisioning a time when they could be recognised as ‘Crorepati Didis’. He praised initiatives such as ‘Lakhpati Didi,’ ‘Drone Didi,’ and the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ for their role in enhancing women’s contribution to national progress.
In the 14th convocation ceremony at Tripura University, Radhakrishnan highlighted the pride radiating from the graduates and their families, framing the occasion as a celebration of academic excellence and perseverance.Reflecting on his recent visits to other northeastern states such as Nagaland and Mizoram, he expressed admiration for the region’s natural beauty and cultural richness. He spoke fondly of Tripura’s vibrant traditions and deep historical legacy.
