Ahead of the announcement by US Vice President JD Vance that peace talks in Islamabad failed to yield any result, President Donald Trump on Sunday struck a confident tone on the negotiations between his country and Iran, saying Washington would emerge on top regardless of the outcome of the high-level meeting.

“They’ve been meeting for many hours… We will see what happens. Regardless of that, we win… Maybe they make a deal; maybe they don’t. It doesn’t matter. From the standpoint of America, we win…," Trump told reporters, projecting confidence over negotiations aimed at securing a ceasefire in West Asia. Follow for live updates

His remarks came as high-level discussions between the two sides stretched into a marathon session, reflecting the complexity of key issues, including nuclear commitments and regional security.

Trump’s emphasis on energy flows and strategic advantage suggested that Washington views its position as strong even in the absence of a formal agreement.

“The boats are sailing up and heading out to our country. We are loading the huge tankers with oil and gas…," the US President added.

Vance Says No Breakthrough After Marathon Islamabad Talks

Later in the day, JD Vance said talks had failed to produce a breakthrough, adding that he was leaving after presenting a “final and best offer" to Iran. He indicated that Tehran was still being given time to respond to the proposal.

“We leave here with a very simple proposal, a method of understanding that is our final and best offer. We’ll see if the Iranians accept it," Vance told reporters after 21 hours of talks.

Nuclear Commitments Emerge As Core Dispute

He underscored that the central dispute remains Iran’s nuclear programme, stressing the need for firm assurances. “The simple fact is that we need to see an affirmative commitment that they will not seek a nuclear weapon and they will not seek the tools that would enable them to quickly achieve a nuclear weapon," he said.

“The simple question is, do we see a fundamental commitment of will for the Iranians not to develop a nuclear weapon — not just now, not just two years from now, but for the long term?" he asked, adding, “We haven’t seen that yet. We hope that we will."
