Following hearings conducted under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls, 11,472 voter names in West Bengal are set to be provisionally deleted from the final list. So far, 11,472 voters have been identified as “ineligible" after completion of hearings.
According to data available with the Election Commission, a total of 6,578,058 notices have been generated to date. Hearings have been completed for 930,229 voters, and only after the conclusion of these hearings has the provisional list of ineligible voters been reflected in the Commission’s records.
Prior to this stage, nearly 5.8 million names had already been deleted from the draft electoral roll. In addition, around 3 million voters remain under the “no mapping" category. From 27 December onwards, slightly over 900,000 voters have been called for hearings. Of these, 11,472 voters have been identified as ineligible based on the hearing process.
At the aggregate level across districts, Commission data shows that while 6,578,058 notices have been generated, 7,419,356 cases are still pending notice generation. Of the notices generated, 3,249,091 have been delivered, while 3,328,967 remain pending delivery. Hearings have been held in approximately 930,000 cases. The total number of pending cases stands at 1,414,180, with 781,641 pending for more than five days. So far, 46,794 cases have been verified, while 434 remain unverified.
In terms of outcomes recorded by Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), 11,472 voters have been found ineligible for final publication, while 34 cases have been parked for final publication.
District-wise data shows that Nadia has recorded the highest number of ineligible voters so far, at 9,228. In the district, notices were issued to 494,532 voters, of which 290,923 received the notices. Hearings were conducted for 127,127 voters.
No voter has been identified as ineligible so far in Kolkata South and Bankura. In Kolkata South, 136,561 notices were generated, while Bankura recorded 163,357 notices.
Other districts have reported relatively smaller numbers of ineligible voters. Cooch Behar has reported 10 such cases. Jalpaiguri has reported four, Darjeeling two, Uttar Dinajpur two, Dakshin Dinajpur 195, and Malda 15.
In Murshidabad, 68 voters have been identified as ineligible; North 24 Parganas has reported 147, South 24 Parganas 69, Kolkata North 54, and Howrah 26.
Hooghly has reported 989 ineligible voters. The figures stand at two in Purba Medinipur, 105 in Paschim Medinipur, 44 in Purulia, 167 in Purba Bardhaman, 264 in Birbhum, nine in Alipurduar, 65 in Kalimpong, three in Jhargram, and four in Paschim Bardhaman.
