Sherrone Moore is still in the Washtenaw County Jail after being fired by the University of Michigan on Wednesday, December 10. Police detained Sherrone Moore the same day as part of an assault investigation, and the Pittsfield Township Police Department said on Thursday that he is expected to appear in court for arraignment on Friday, December 12.
This is the first major update since his removal as head coach.The university also shared a message on Thursday from interim president Domenico Grasso. He told students and staff that the investigation is still active and asked anyone with information to contact the school’s compliance hotline. He said, “Due process requires that someone taken into custody be brought before a judge without unnecessary delay.”He also said that bigger areas like Ann Arbor often have judges working on weekends, so the time window does not pause.Another Ann Arbor lawyer, Scott Grabel, said that holding someone for the full 72 hours is not common but does happen. He believes prosecutors may make a decision sometime Friday. By late Friday morning, there was still no word from the court or prosecutors about the next steps in the case. The Pittsfield Township Police Department repeated Thursday that they expect Sherrone Moore to appear in court, but the exact time remains unclear.
