Muskan Mishra, a 22-year-old social media influencer with nearly seven lakh followers, was seen as one of the rising faces in the Samajwadi Party’s women’s wing. But a brief meeting in Ayodhya—and a video of her taking blessings from Hanumangarhi Mahant Raju Das—has abruptly ended her short stint as national secretary of the SP Mahila Sabha.

The video, posted on her Instagram account on Sunday, triggered a storm within the party. Within hours of its circulation, Mishra was removed from her post. The decision followed sharp disapproval reportedly expressed by SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, as Raju Das is the same priest who had once used derogatory language for SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav during the Prayagraj Mahakumbh.

A Short Stint

Mishra’s rise in the Samajwadi Party had been swift. Appointed as national secretary of the women’s wing in July by its national president Juhi Singh, she had been entrusted with building digital engagement among young voters. But on Sunday, the same leader who elevated her issued her removal order.

The letter stated: “You are hereby relieved from the post of national secretary, Samajwadi Party Mahila Sabha, with immediate effect. Netaji Mulayam Singh Yadav will remain our inspiration forever."

However, some SP leaders later clarified that Mishra’s removal was not directly linked to the Ayodhya incident. She was formally relieved since she was getting married.

The Controversial Ayodhya Visit

Mishra, accompanied by her associate Suraj Pandey, met Mahant Raju Das in Ayodhya on October 13. A video of her taking blessings went viral on Instagram soon after. Party workers objected strongly, calling for disciplinary action, and the matter reportedly reached Akhilesh Yadav. Within hours, the removal order was made public.

“I Was Unaware"

Reacting to her dismissal, Mishra said she was unaware of Raju Das’s earlier remarks about Mulayam Singh. “I have been made a victim of conspiracy. I didn’t know that the person I was meeting had spoken against our party founder. If I had known, I would never have gone there," she said, adding, “I’m not upset about losing the post, but the decision was made without hearing my side."

She added: “If my video has hurt anyone’s sentiments or the party’s image, I apologise. It wasn’t intentional."

Raju Das’s Comment

Earlier this year, during the Prayagraj Mahakumbh, a parody account titled Akhilesh Yadav (Son of Mulayam Singh Yadav) had posted on X, “If you are going to the Kumbh Mela, do visit the god of PDA of this country."

Mahant Raju Das retweeted the post with an abusive remark, which drew a sharp response from Akhilesh Yadav: “Jaisi sangat, waisi vaani, keh gaye sab sant-gyani (As the company, so the speech — the wise have said it well)."

Following this, SP workers had staged protests across Uttar Pradesh and even filed cases against the Mahant.

Digital Face of the Party

Based in Lucknow, Mishra represents the new-age, social media-driven political generation. Her Instagram handle, @muskan_.mishra_, has nearly seven lakh followers and over 4,600 posts. Her bio reads: “Udkhar girna, girkar udna, seekha hai maine bas, thahrna nahi (I’ve learned to fly after falling, never to stop)."

Just last month, Mishra had written a public letter on the SP’s official letterhead, alleging mental harassment by some student wing members. She said she was receiving thousands of abusive messages daily, naming specific individuals, including student leaders Vinit Kushwaha and Pooja Shukla.

“I have become mentally depressed and broken… if anything happens to me, these people will be responsible," she had written in her emotional letter dated September 27.
