White House artificial intelligence policy adviser Sriram Krishnan has announced that he will step down from his role at the end of June, marking another high-profile departure from US President Donald Trump’s administration. Announcing on Saturday, Krishnan said he plans to take a break before focusing on “large challenges facing America on AI."
He did not share further details about his next project, saying he would announce a later stage. In the same post, Krishnan praised Trump, stating that America is “leading the AI race" because of the US president.
In a post on X, Krishnan said, “I’ll be leaving my role at the White House at the end of this month. After a break, I’ll be working on helping tackle some of the large challenges facing America on AI (more on that later). It is hard to express how big a privilege it has been to serve the American people and how grateful I am to have had the opportunity to do so."
He credited Trump for the country’s progress in artificial intelligence, stating, “Without his leadership, we would not be leading in the AI race."
Reflecting on his 18 months in the role, Krishnan outlined several initiatives he helped shape, including the American AI Action Plan, AI acceleration partnerships aimed at strengthening the American AI stack, and the National AI Policy Framework under the Artificial Intelligence executive order.
