Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir welcomes U.S.-Iran delegates in Islamabad
When Pakistan’s Army Chief General Asim Munir went to Nur Khan airbase to receive U.S. Vice President JD Vance, he was seen wearing a black suit — an uncommon departure from his usual military uniform.
Vance, accompanied by President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff, arrived in Islamabad on Saturday ahead of the ceasefire talks with Iran.
Earlier in the day, Munir was wearing his military uniform — the attire he’s often seen in — when he went to welcome the Iranian delegation.
The Iranian delegation, comprising of Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, President Seyed Abbas Araghchi, among other leaders — arrived in Pakistan on Friday.

Diplomatic Signalling?
Analysts say attire can play a subtle role in diplomatic optics, with shifts in outfits often mirroring the tone and nature of high-level engagements.
Munir’s shift from military uniform to a black suit for the U.S. delegation reflects his effort to portray himself as a more statesmanlike and diplomatic leader, while also maintaining the institutional authority conveyed by his uniform earlier in the day.
The fact that Army Chief Asim Munir — viewed as an influential military leader in Pakistan — went to Nur Khan base to receive the delegation reflects the significance of the diplomatic event.
Pakistan — though embroiled in its own conflict with Afghanistan — has made an effort to project itself as a relevant player in diplomacy by offering to mediate a peace truce between the U.S. and Iran.
U.S.-Iran Peace Talks
The peace talks between the United States and Iran are scheduled to be held today at Nur Khan base in Islamabad, media reports have suggested.
Ahead of the negotiations, both sides will engage in separate meetings with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
According to reports, the Iranian delegation will raise the issue of continued Israeli attacks on Lebanon during meeting with Sharif.
