Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards has been ruled out of action for at least a week due to a strained right hamstring. This injury occurred in the early minutes of their last game, a 114-110 victory over the Indiana Pacers on Sunday night.

Edwards left the game just over three minutes. An MRI confirmed the strain on Monday.

Before Monday’s game against the Denver Nuggets, the Timberwolves announced that Edwards would be reevaluated in a week, suggesting he has the mildest type of strain. Grade 1 strains usually mean that a few muscle fibers are damaged or overstretched, causing sudden but typically slight pain in the back of the thigh — these injuries generally don’t even require specialized care and heal on their own with rest.

The three-time All-Star will miss at least three games, starting with the home clash against the LA Lakers on Thursday (India time) and then the beginning of a three-game road trip in Charlotte on Sunday.

“Of course we’re going to miss him, his ability to take over a game, put together runs, do all the special things that he can do. But we feel like we have a deep team, and this is when a deep team helps you," Timberwolves coach Chris Finch said.

The Timberwolves have six games scheduled, including five on the road, in the first 10 days of November, and will hope to get their superstar back in time.

Veteran guard Mike Conley filled Edwards’ position in the lineup against Denver on Monday night, but it’s not as being a like-for-like replacement for Edwards.

“We don’t need anyone to try to step into his shoes exclusively," Finch stated. “You’ve got to do it by committee and everybody pitching in and opening opportunities for others… Hopefully, some guys can really find a groove right now, and then the collective can carry us."

So far, Edwards has had an immaculate injury record. He missed only three games each season over the past three years. Before this injury, he played in 426 out of a possible 445 games in his career, including the playoffs.

In a bit more positive news, the Timberwolves announced that backup point guard Rob Dillingham was available to play against Denver after being sidelined against Indiana due to a broken nose.
