It seems that the Winnipeg Jets are just about to sign their captain to a long-term contract. Adam Lowry, who was one of the players who debuted in the season on Tuesday night during the game against the Los Angeles Kings, is on the verge of signing a new contract extension with the team.
Although the game resulted in a 3-0 loss, the presence of Lowry after a long absence due to hip surgery gave a significant boost to Winnipeg’s morale. As per TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger, the negotiations between the Jets and Lowry have gained momentum really fast after Kyle Connor’s recent deal.”Both the team and the player are super motivated to get something done," Dreger said on Insider Trading. He pointed out that with the player coming back into the game, the talks have been fast-tracked, and so a deal may be done soon.
Lowry’s current five-year, $16.25 million deal expires in July, which makes this the best time for both parties.

Darren Dreger put it that while the deal is not done, “it’s getting closer.” The Jets have all along been keen on having Lowry stay in Winnipeg, and this is what the organization has been saying since it anointed him captain at the start of the 2023–24 season. The 32-year-old center, who was a first-round (13th overall) pick in the 2011 NHL Draft, has been one of the leaders in the dressing room of the franchise—last year he scored 16 goals and assisted on 18 more in 73 games.
Lowry had 14:08 of ice time during the game of his return; thus, he was slowly back to the rhythm of the game. His career in the NHL has spanned 776 games, during which he has netted 121 times and accumulated 273 points, all while being with the Jets. Signing him to an extension would be in line with the Jets’ policy to have a stable roster—their major players, including Connor Hellebuyck, Mark Scheifele, Gabriel Vilardi, and Neal Pionk already committed to the club till the end of the 2030–31 season. The Jets' assurance of their captaincy reflects not only their faith in his leadership but also his prolonged influence—an assertion that may preserve the nucleus of Winnipeg's team for several more years, as Lowry gets back to his best.More coverage on NHLWill Roope Hintz play tonight against the Edmonton Oilers?
