Woman attempts suicide with 3 kids in Buxar; one dies

Buxar: A woman allegedly attempted suicide along with her three children by consuming pesticide at Rasen village under Rajpur police station area in Buxar district on Wednesday.

One child, Arjun Kumar (3), died, while the woman, Ruby Devi (26), and her two other children — Karan Kumar (6) and Radha (2) — are in critical condition and undergoing treatment at Buxar Sadar Hospital, police said.According to the police, after the death of her first husband, Rajkumar Chauhan, in 2020, Ruby was remarried to her brother-in-law, Jitendra Chauhan, in 2021. She has three children—the eldest son, Karan Kumar, from her first marriage, while Arjun and Radha from her second marriage.Jitendra Chauhan said, “I work in a factory in Delhi and had returned to the village only for Makar Sankranti. Ruby had also attempted suicide by consuming poison the day before the incident. The police were informed via the 112 helpline, and after counseling, the matter was resolved at that time.”Preliminary investigation suggests that the woman obtained pesticide used for spraying crops. She first consumed it and then gave it to her three children. “The police are investigating where and how the pesticide was obtained,” said Niwas Kumar, SHO of Rajpur, adding that a police team has been sent to the hospital.He further said that three of them are receiving treatment and the entire matter is being investigated thoroughly. Further legal action will be taken after the treatment, he added.
