The security staff caught a woman for allegedly attempting to smuggle a mobile phone into the Central Prison here on Friday.
The incident occurred at the General Visitors Section on the prison premises around 12.10 p.m. The Karnataka State Industrial Security Force (KSISF) personnel had been deployed for visitor-screening and prison security.
The accused, identified as Lakshmi Narasimha, 38, had obtained a visitor pass to meet an undertrial prisoner, Bharath. During routine frisking, it was found that she had concealed a mobile phone inside her clothes.
Upon further examination, the personnel recovered a blue-coloured keypad mobile phone, along with a SIM card, which was then handed over to the police for further investigation.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is under way.
Earlier, the prison officials caught an undertrial, identified as Vijay Nagappa, and recovered two mobile phones which he had allegedly concealed in his under garments on Saturday. Vijay was moving suspiciously in front of 5th barrack in tower 1 when the security staff caught and frisked him. The officials later searched and found two more mobile phones in a dustbin and one phone concealed in the wardrobe.
