Woman beaten to death over suspected witchcraft in Bihta

In a tragic incident that has shocked the local community, 32-year-old Juhi Devi was violently attacked and killed in the Bihta region of Patna, with allegations of witchcraft surfacing following the sudden death of a child. Her father claims that longstanding grudges motivated the brutal assault, which involved iron rods and stones.

Patna: A 32-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death on Wednesday evening in Bajitpur village under Bihta police station area in Patna district. The incident was reportedly triggered by accusations of witchcraft linked to a child’s recent death and and old personal enmity.The deceased was identified as Juhi Devi. According to her father, Harendra Ram, Juhi came to her parental home in Bajitpur to celebrate Makar Sankranti. The tragedy unfolded after a six-month-old child from the extended family died on Tuesday. Following the child’s death, members of the accused group branded Juhi as ‘dayan’ (witch) and her family as practitioners of witchcraft, blaming them for the tragedy.Harendra alleged that the accused launched a brutal attack on his daughter using iron rods, bricks, and stones.

Juhi succumbed to her injuries at the spot. When other family members attempted to intervene and protect her, they were also assaulted, resulting in their injuries. The injured were admitted to a hospital for treatment.Local police arrived at the place after receiving information about the incident and began a probe. The body was sent for postmortem to a govt hospital.City SP (West) Bhanu Pratap Singh told this reporter that the woman was killed over suspected witchcraft, and further investigation was underway.

Bihta SHO Amit Kumar said the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team was informed and evidence collection was underway. “A police team has been deployed in the area to apprehend the accused persons involved in the assault. A formal written complaint from the victim’s family is awaited, after which further legal action will proceed,” he said.
