A young woman died after falling from the eighth floor of a 2-BHK apartment at KCR Nagar in Kollur on Thursday (December 18) while attempting to move from her flat to the balcony of a neighbouring apartment.

The deceased was identified as Sakina Fathima, 21, a private company employee. Her family, residents of Dabeerpura in Hyderabad, had earlier been allotted the apartment but were not living there.

According to the Kollur police, Fathima had come to the flat along with her colleague and partner, Mir Hussain Ali Khan, on Thursday morning.

Around noon, her father also arrived at the apartment complex while in the area to purchase ration supplies. Finding the ration shop closed, he decided to go to the flat to rest for a while. When he reached the apartment around 12.30 p.m., he noticed that the lock was missing and the door was bolted from inside. After repeatedly knocking and receiving no response, and suspecting that someone else might have occupied the flat, he locked the door from outside and went downstairs.

Police said that after hearing her father’s voice, the woman attempted to leave the apartment by moving to the adjacent balcony. During the attempt, she slipped and fell from the eighth floor. Khan reportedly tried to hold on to her but lost his grip, following which she fell to the ground and died on the spot.

The Kollur police have registered a case and investigation is underway into the incident.
