Commuters planning to travel on the Yellow Line of Namma Metro on Sunday, December 21, should be prepared for a delayed start, as train services on this corridor will begin an hour later than usual. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited has issued an advisory stating that Yellow Line services will commence at 8 AM instead of the regular 7 AM start.

The Yellow Line connects RV Road to Bommasandra and plays a critical role in linking south Bengaluru with the Electronic City industrial and IT corridor. The delay applies only to this line, while services on the other Namma Metro corridors will continue to operate according to their normal Sunday schedules.

Reason behind the delayed start

According to BMRCL, the late start is due to scheduled maintenance and system-related works that require additional time before passenger services can safely begin. While officials have not specified the exact nature of the work, such maintenance typically involves checks and upgrades related to signalling systems, power supply, communication networks or control room software.

Metro officials have indicated that these works are necessary to ensure operational safety and reliability. By choosing a Sunday morning and limiting the delay to a single corridor, BMRCL says it aims to minimise disruption to weekday peak-hour commuters, who form the bulk of daily ridership.

Impact on early morning commuters

The delayed start may cause inconvenience to passengers who rely on early morning Yellow Line services on Sundays. This includes office-goers working weekend shifts in Electronic City, hospital staff, students attending coaching classes, and travellers heading to bus terminals or railway stations for onward journeys.

Commuters who usually plan their first-mile and last-mile connectivity around the 7 AM service may need to reschedule feeder bus connections, auto pickups or cab bookings. Once services begin at 8 AM, trains are expected to operate as per the usual timetable for the rest of the day.

Crowding expected near revised start time

Stations along the Yellow Line corridor, particularly high-footfall stations such as Central Silk Board, Jayadeva and Bommasandra, may see crowding closer to the revised start time as passengers adjust their travel plans. Commuters arriving early may need to wait longer on platforms, especially if several passengers converge around the first few services of the day.

Passengers are advised to factor in this potential crowding while planning their journeys, particularly if they are travelling with luggage or have time-sensitive commitments.

Advice from BMRCL to passengers

BMRCL has advised commuters to plan ahead and make alternate arrangements if they need to travel before 8 AM on Sunday. Passengers may consider using BMTC bus services, autos or other available transport options during the early morning hours when metro services are not operational on the Yellow Line.

Those planning interchanges with other metro lines should also take the delayed start into account, as connections involving the Yellow Line will not be possible until services begin.

Check service updates before leaving home

Commuters are encouraged to check the latest service status before heading to metro stations. Updates related to the delayed start and any changes to service restoration are expected to be shared through official BMRCL communication channels, including the Namma Metro app, station announcements and official social media handles.

Keeping track of real-time updates can help passengers avoid unnecessary waiting at stations and plan alternative routes if required.

Normal operations from Monday

The delayed start is a one-day arrangement applicable only for Sunday, December 21. BMRCL has indicated that Yellow Line services are expected to resume normal operating hours from Monday onwards, with trains running according to the standard weekday schedule.

For commuters, the key takeaway is to adjust Sunday morning plans accordingly. Leaving home a little later, checking updates in advance and considering alternate travel options can help avoid inconvenience caused by the temporary change in Yellow Line operations.
