Zero Commission, Surge-Free Ride Platform for Drivers

Amit Shah to Launch Bharat Taxi Today: Zero Commission, Surge-Free Ride Platform for Drivers

Union Minister Amit Shah will launch Bharat Taxi app in New Delhi on Thursday, February 5. The service is a cooperative platform run by drivers under the principle of “Sarathi Hi Malik" (Driver is the Owner).

Backed by major cooperatives such as IFFCO and Amul, this isn’t just another app, it is the world’s largest driver-owned mobility platform. This government-backed app cab model will challenge the dominance of private giants like Ola and Uber.

How Bharat Taxi differs from Ola, Uber and Rapido

Bharat Taxi’s biggest difference lies in its financial model. Unlike private aggregators that charge commissions and apply surge pricing, Bharat Taxi follows a zero-commission, surge-free structure.

Commission: 0% for all drivers in comparison to 20–30% commission on other platforms

Surge pricing: Strictly surge-free whereas others have high surges during peak hours

Driver status: Co-owner and shareholder vs contractual gig worker

Daily access fee: Rs 30 flat vs percentage-based cuts

Pricing: Regulated and transparent compared to demand-based fluctuation in others

With no middleman cut, fares are estimated to be up to 30% cheaper for passengers while drivers earn more.

‘Sarathi Hi Malik’ model

Drivers are registered under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002. Top performers will receive share certificates, making them official stakeholders. Each driver is provided Rs 5 lakh personal accident insurance and Rs 5 lakh family health insurance. Drivers are also free to work on other platforms.

Focus on women drivers

Bharat Taxi promotes women’s participation through the “Bike Didi" or “Mahila Sarathi" programme. Over 150 women drivers have already joined. The platform offers free training for 15,000 women by 2030. Women drivers, like all others, benefit from the zero-commission model and retain full fares.

Digital integration and safety measures

The platform is integrated with India’s Digital Public Infrastructure – DigiLocker for driver verification, UMANG and API Setu for service delivery and emergency tie-ups with local police, including 35 booths in Delhi.

After its pilot success in Delhi-NCR and Gujarat, Bharat Taxi plans to expand across all states within two years.

How drivers can join?

Drivers can download the Bharat Taxi Driver app from the Google Play Store and register using OTP. Required documents include a commercial driving licence, Aadhaar, PAN, RC and insurance. Drivers can become co-owners by purchasing cooperative shares starting at Rs 500 for five shares. After verification, they can begin accepting rides without commissions or exclusivity clauses.
