A 12-year-old boy died during treatment after being hit on the head by a cricket bat that allegedly slipped from a 14-year-old batter's hands during a match in Uttar Pradesh's Bhadohi.

The victim was playing a cricket match with his friends
A 12-year-old boy died hours after allegedly being struck on the head by a bat that slipped from a batter's hand while playing a shot during a cricket match in a Bhadohi village, police said on Thursday.
Station House Officer Manoj Kumar said the victim, a resident of the same village, was fielding near the batsman when a 14-year-old boy attempted to hit the ball during a match that occurred on Wednesday evening in Bhanipur village under Durgaganj police station limits, where children aged 10 to 14 were playing.
The SHO said the bat slipped from the batter's hands and struck the boy's head.
"Other children comforted the boy, after which the game resumed. The victim later came out to bat when his team's turn arrived," he said.
Police said after returning home, the boy complained of a severe headache during the night and later collapsed after feeling dizzy. The family, who were visiting the city from Pune to see relatives and were scheduled to return on July 10, rushed him to a hospital in the neighbouring Prayagraj district, where he died during treatment.
The SHO said the body was sent for a postmortem examination.
Police said they registered a case of causing death by negligence based on a complaint lodged by the victim's father, detained the accused boy and have initiated legal proceedings.
