A 15-year-old student reportedly died by suicide after shooting his teacher at a well-known Texas high school on Monday morning. The boy shot the female teacher at Hill Country College Preparatory High School in Comal County before fatally shooting himself, Sheriff Mark Reynolds confirmed during an afternoon press briefing.

Officials had earlier reported that the teenager died after the incident but had not explained the circumstances at the time. The injured teacher was taken to a hospital following the shooting, though authorities did not provide an update on her condition.

Investigators were working to determine whether there was any connection, if any, between the student and the teacher involved. According to Reynolds, officers were continuing to gather statements from witnesses as part of the investigation.

A student at the campus told local outlet KSAT that five gunshots were heard inside the building while teachers quickly moved students into classrooms for safety. Law enforcement later evacuated the school, and the Comal County Sheriff’s Office said all other students and staff members were accounted for and unharmed.

The school, located in the small town of Bulverde near San Antonio, has fewer than 200 students and functions as a public school of choice. Throughout the day, administrators used social media to keep parents informed about safety updates and the process for reuniting families.

Students were transported to a nearby middle school campus, where parents and guardians were required to present valid photo identification before picking them up. Although the school sits in a quiet community of about 6,000 residents, it attracts applicants from across Comal County because of its STEM-focused program that allows students to graduate while also earning an associate’s degree.
