It started as a serious debate. It ended in laughter.
On Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Thierry Henry was passionately explaining why Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have had to evolve — ditching style for substance in a long-overdue title push.
Then Jamie Carragher saw his moment… and absolutely nailed it.
Henry was mid-flow, hammering home Arsenal’s 22-year wait for a Premier League title.
“22 years? Listen to me… I don’t want to jinx it, but 22 years is a looooong time."
Without missing a beat, Carragher fired back: “You had hair."
Cue instant laughter across the studio.
It was classic Carragher — perfectly timed, brutally simple, and completely disarming. Even Henry couldn’t help but laugh.
Beneath the Banter: A Real Point
Before the punchline, Henry had been making a serious argument.
Under Arteta, Arsenal have shifted away from their old, free-flowing, Pep Guardiola-inspired style to something far more pragmatic: built on defensive solidity, physicality, and ruthless efficiency.
Not everyone loves it. Henry doesn’t even claim to.

“I don’t have to like it as an Arsenal fan, but I surely respect it," he admitted. “We asked Mikel Arteta to find a way, and he did. I want to win the league."
And that’s the crux of it. After more than two decades without a title, aesthetics come second.
The Strange Case of Arsenal Hate
Henry also admitted he’s surprised by how many neutrals seem to be rooting against Arsenal.
“A lot of people are like ‘anyone but Arsenal,’" he said.
“You root normally for the underdog, for the team that could not do it or failed. But for some reason, a lot of people don’t want Arsenal to win the league."
Carragher agreed, suggesting it could be down to everything from Arteta’s touchline antics to fan behaviour online, or simply the way this Arsenal team goes about winning.
“There is something about Arsenal and the way they have gone about it, whether you like it or not," Carragher stated.
“Whether it is the style of football, Arteta on the side of the pitch, or what Fabian Hurzeler was saying. Maybe it is the fanbase on social media, which gets a bit of criticism, that maybe rubs people up the wrong way."
