Good morning, readers.

From Karnataka’s crucial Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting to elect the state’s next chief minister to the blockbuster UEFA Champions League final between Arsenal and PSG in Budapest, Saturday is packed with major political, diplomatic and sporting developments.

Before you begin your day, here’s a quick roundup of the top stories and key events to watch.

Karnataka CLP Meet

The Congress has convened a meeting of the Karnataka Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in Bengaluru to elect a new leader following Siddaramaiah’s resignation as chief minister. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar is widely expected to be chosen as his successor.

The CLP meeting comes after a series of high-level discussions in New Delhi between the Congress leadership and both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar to finalise the leadership transition and government formation process.

US-Iran Deal

A major breakthrough in the US-Iran negotiations is expected on Saturday after weeks of high-stakes diplomatic talks between Washington and Tehran. US President Donald Trump chaired a high-level meeting in the White House Situation Room to take a final call on a broad, multi-part peace agreement with Iran.

Earlier, Trump claimed on social media that the naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz was being lifted and suggested that a decision on the proposed deal could come soon.

However, Iranian state media outlet Press TV reported that no final understanding had been reached so far, rejecting suggestions that Tehran would agree to any deal under external pressure.

Delhi NCR weather

After enduring weeks of intense heatwave conditions, Delhi-NCR finally received much-needed relief with rainfall on Thursday evening, while the weather remained pleasant across the region on Friday.

A yellow alert has been issued for Saturday in Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Faridabad and Gurugram, while parts of Delhi are likely to witness thunderstorms and lightning activity, according to weather forecasts.

Myanmar President’s India Visit

Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing will arrive in India on Saturday for a four-day official visit focused on strengthening economic ties, boosting border security cooperation and advancing regional connectivity projects.

The visit, scheduled from May 30 to June 2 at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will be Min Aung Hlaing’s first trip to India in his capacity as President. He will be accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising Cabinet ministers, senior officials and business leaders.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said a wide range of bilateral issues would be discussed during the visit. “Regarding border security, connectivity, and other issues, all matters that form part of the gamut of relations between Myanmar and India will come up for discussion. Our idea is to take our friendly, civilizational ties forward," Jaiswal said.

He added that the visit also includes a significant business component aimed at deepening trade and economic engagement between the two neighbouring countries.

Arsenal vs PSG UCL Final: Two Clubs, Two Journeys, One European Crown

The 2026 UEFA Champions League final between Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain at Puskás Aréna brings together two clubs at very different moments in their European journeys.

Under Luis Enrique, PSG have transformed from a superstar-driven side into a disciplined and cohesive team following the departures of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappé. After lifting their first-ever Champions League title last season against Inter Milan, the French champions are now chasing consecutive European crowns in a bid to establish themselves as the dominant force in continental football.

For Mikel Arteta and Arsenal, however, the final represents the culmination of a long rebuilding project. Arteta has spent nearly seven years reshaping the club, guiding the Gunners to their first Premier League title in 22 years while maintaining an unbeaten domestic campaign.

Now, Arsenal stand on the brink of history as they chase their maiden Champions League trophy. The occasion also carries deep emotional significance for the North London club, coming exactly 20 years after their only previous final appearance ended in heartbreak against Barcelona in 2006.
