The Democratic Marxist Front (DMF), floated by former CPI(M) leader P.K. Sasi, received a boost on Tuesday with a group of Trinamool Congress workers joining the outfit. DMF leaders claimed that around 800 workers who had quit the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) have now joined the front. They said the former AITC workers would participate in a DMF convention to be held here on Thursday.
Efforts are also under way to attract those who have either severed ties with the CPI(M) or have had bitter experience from the party leadership in the district. Recently, around two dozen CPI(M) workers resigned from the party, accusing the leadership of being arrogant. DMF leaders have since initiated talks with Abdul Shukoor, Palakkad municipal councillor and former area committee member of the CPI(M), who was demoted following a dispute with district secretary E.N. Suresh Babu.
DMF leaders said on Tuesday that Mr. Shukoor, along with several others, was expected to attend the convention on Thursday.
