Absconding For Weeks, TMC MLA Dilip Mondal Detained In Puri Over Charges Of Threatening BJP Workers

Former West Bengal minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Dilip Mondal was detained in Odisha’s Puri and is currently in the custody of the Special Task Force (STF) of the West Bengal police.

Sources told CNN-News18 that Mondal had been on the run for several weeks and had been hiding in a hotel in Puri for the last two days. A STF team of the West Bengal police interrogated him inside the hotel, and subsequently, he was detained.

Fled To Evade Arrest

A TMC MLA from Bishunpur, South 24 Parganas, Mondal had multiple cases registered against him, including charges of threatening BJP workers during the recently-concluded West Bengal Assembly Elections.

The Bengal police had earlier conducted a special operation in the South 24 Parganas and arrested Dilip’s son, Arghya Mondal, recovering illegal weapon from his possession.

According to investigators, two pistols and six mobile phones were seized from the accused. Police also said that Arghya Mondal had been threatening BJP workers and supporters in the region.

As the investigation proceeded, Dilip Mondal fled to evade arrest and later, he was declared “absconding" by investigators.
