A 30-year-old man, who met with an accident and was admitted to a government hospital in Meerut, “bled to death when he was left unattended for hours at the emergency ward", according to a report.
A junior resident doctor at the Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial (LLRM) Medical College was suspended on Monday for alleged negligence, after a purported video of him surfaced, showing him asleep in front of an AC with a leg placed on the table surfaced, Times of India reported.
The family of the victim, identified as Sunil Kumar, was seen pleading with other staff for immediate treatment.
Principal of the medical college, Dr RC Gupta, said that the administration has taken note of the said video, and the concerned junior resident doctor, identified as Dr Bhupesh Kumar Rai, was immediately suspended.
A three-member committee was formed to investigate the allegations levelled by the grieving family.
“The accident victim was probably admitted to the hospital’s emergency ward around 1 am on Monday. We’ve also taken note of the fact that in the widely circulated video, the patient’s family members were pleading for treatment," the official was quoted as saying by TOI.
The victim’s family said that Kumar suffered an injury in his leg after a vehicle struck his bike on Sunday night. They alleged that they waited for a long time for the on-duty doctor to wake up and also pleaded with other medical staff for help. However, it did not help.
The family alleged that Kumar, who was bleeding continuously, was left to die on the stretcher.
