A 25-year-old man walked into a police station in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow to file a missing complaint for his wife. Sensing inconsistencies in his account, police grew suspicious. When pressed further, he allegedly confessed to killing his wife and dumping her body over suspicions that she was having an affair with a close relative.
The incident was reported from the Chinhat police station area in Lucknow, where Altaf alias Kallu allegedly strangled his 24-year-old wife, Yasmeen.
According to police, the couple had been frequently fighting over the issue. The argument escalated late at night, following which the accused allegedly killed his wife.
Police said Altaf then stuffed the body into a sack and transported it in a battery-operated rickshaw from Barabanki to Lucknow, where he dumped it near the Indira Dam in the BBD police station area. He allegedly tried to conceal the crime, but the matter came to light during the police investigation.
After the murder, the accused himself went to the police station and attempted to file a missing person complaint for his wife. Police grew suspicious of his behaviour and subjected him to intense questioning.
During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to killing his wife and dumping the body.
Police have arrested Altaf alias Kallu, while Yasmeen’s body, recovered from the sack, has been sent for post-mortem examination. Further investigation is underway into all aspects of the murder case.
