A 31-year-old woman from Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal district has delivered four babies within a span of five days in what doctors described as an extremely rare and medically challenging case. The deliveries took place at Teerthanker Mahaveer University hospital in Moradabad, where all four children were born through normal delivery, an uncommon outcome in high-risk multiple pregnancies that usually require Caesarean surgery.
The woman, identified as Amina, gave birth to two sons and two daughters. Hospital authorities said both the mother and the newborns are under medical supervision and their condition is steadily improving.
Doctors said the pregnancy had been classified as highly complicated from the beginning after ultrasound scans confirmed the presence of four fetuses. Considering the risks involved, the medical team had advised "fetal reduction" to improve the chances of safely delivering two babies, but the family decided to continue with all four pregnancies.
During the course of the pregnancy, Amina also suffered from blood pressure and liver-related complications and had to be admitted to hospital multiple times for treatment and monitoring.
According to the hospital administration, Amina first went into labour on May 8. She delivered her first son on May 9, with the baby weighing around 710 grams. Doctors then managed to stabilise the condition and delayed the remaining deliveries as the pregnancy was still in the six-and-a-half to seven-month stage.
Five days later, on May 14, she again experienced labour pain and was brought to the hospital, where she delivered the remaining three babies, including one son and two daughters. Doctors said one of the newborns is completely healthy, while two others remain under special observation.
The hospital's medical team described the case as exceptionally rare and challenging. Doctors said all four babies were in separate sacs, making the successful normal deliveries even more unusual from a medical standpoint.
The treatment and monitoring involved a team of doctors, along with several hospital staff members. Physicians said timely intervention, continuous monitoring and cooperation from the family played a crucial role in managing the high-risk pregnancy successfully.
Mohammad Alim, the babies' father and a grocery store owner, thanked the hospital and doctors for their support. Amina's sister, Imrana Parveen, also praised the medical staff for their care and assistance throughout the pregnancy.
Hospital officials described the case as an example of coordinated teamwork, advanced medical management and dedicated treatment. Doctors added that in such high-risk pregnancies, both the mother and babies face serious health risks, making the successful normal delivery of all four children a significant medical achievement.
