Amid fuel shortage, Gujarat truckers seek govt intervention

Ahmedabad: The Akhil Gujarat Truck Transport Association (AGTTA) has urged the state govt to immediately address the growing shortage of diesel and other petroleum products in parts of the state.

Association members warned that the crisis is severely affecting transport, trade and industrial activity. In a representation submitted to deputy chief minister and home & transport minister Harsh Sanghavi, AGTTA stated the shortage was particularly acute in Kutch, Saurashtra and North Gujarat, where several fuel stations in remote areas have reportedly shut operations due to inadequate supply.AGTTA, which represents nearly 12 lakh commercial vehicle owners across Gujarat, said the current situation has disrupted movement of goods and created operational difficulties for transporters, especially those linked to ports and industrial corridors.“Trade, industry and commerce are facing considerable problems due to the shortage. Transportation linked to ports has also become difficult,” the representation stated. “If vehicles remain parked even for a single day, operators can suffer heavy financial losses,” the association said, while requesting the state govt to ensure uninterrupted fuel availability across affected regions.
