Andhra Loyola College cadet named best rider at R-Day fete

NCC cadet from Andhra Loyola College (ALC), Durigampudi Vijaya Lakshmi, belonging to NCC 3(A) R&V Wing, has been adjudged the ‘Best Rider – Girls, Republic Day 2026,’ after she secured the highest overall points among girl cadets across India.

The college management, in a press release on Thursday informed that Ms. Vijaya Lakshmi showcased exceptional equestrian excellence at the national-level competitions conducted during the Republic Day camp. Her remarkable achievements include a gold medal in show jumping, a silver in fault and out game and a bronze in dressage.

The medals and recognition were officially confirmed by the Directorate General of NCC, New Delhi, during the camp. In recognition of her achievement, she was felicitated by the Governor of Telangana, Jishnu Dev Varma, and Deputy Director General, NCC Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Directorate, Air Commodore Narasingh Sailani.

Apart from her excellence in NCC, Vijaya Lakshmi consistently maintains commendable academic performance. She aspires to clear the Combined Defence Services (CDS) examination and serve the nation as an officer in the Defence.

Principal of Andhra Loyola College, Fr. S. Melchior, Commanding Officer, NCC 3(A) R&V Wing, Lt. Col. Thirtha Prasad, caretaker of ALC NCC R&V Wing, Amurtha Rao, Unit PI staff, faculty members and students congratulated Ms. Vijaya Lakshmi for her dedication and perseverance.

Meanwhile, Ms. Vijaya Lakshmi expressed gratitude to her horse “Tara” and trainer Babu Rao for their constant support and guidance throughout the competitions.
