MLAs of the ruling coalition said in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday that Governor S. Abdul Nazeer’s address to the joint session of the Legislature on Wednesday reflected the difficult times that Andhra Pradesh had gone through post-bifurcation, largely due to the YSR Congress Party’s (YSRCP) “destructive rule,” and the government’s efforts in the last 20 months that put the State back on the track.
The YSRCP members’ attempt to interrupt the Governor’s speech and their walkout were tantamount to insulting the constitutional post, they said.
Participating in a discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the Governor’s address moved by Gopalapuram (SC) MLA Maddipati Venkata Raju in the Legislative Assembly, Tadikonda MLA T. Sravan Kumar said the State suffered a lot due to the unscientific manner in which the unified State was bifurcated in 2014, and the destructive rule of the YSRCP during 2019-24.
He recalled that YSRCP president and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s withdrawal of support, which he initially extended for the development of Amaravati as the capital of Andhra Pradesh, caused a huge loss due to the abrupt stoppage of works.
Reviving the capital project required strenuous efforts by the coalition government, he said, noting that works costing about ₹52,000 crore were now going on at a brisk pace involving about 25,000 workers.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu ensured that there would be no repeat of what Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy did to Amaravati by having a Bill that would give it legal sanctity passed in Parliament, Mr. Sravan Kumar added.
Rayadurgam MLA Kalava Srinivasulu said the people had lost confidence in the YSRCP due to its policies and vindictive politics, and that the TDP-led alliance proved its mettle by achieving several things in the last 20 months. He observed that there was no match to A.P. in implementing welfare schemes and that equal priority had been given to development.
He noted that the TDP Government of 2014-19 had spent ₹64,000 crore on irrigation projects and ₹23,000 crore after it came to power in June 2024 along with the JSP and BJP. The YSRCP Government had stopped 200 projects during its reign, of which 102 were in Rayalaseema. This showed how Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy government’s policies affected the development of Rayalaseema.
Anakapalli MLA Konathala Ramakrishna said A.P. was surging ahead because of the “triple engine government,” calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mr. Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan as the ones driving it smoothly through a whole lot of obstacles.
TDP MLA Yarlagadda Venkat Rao (Gannavaram) said the Governor’s address rightly focused on the achievements of the coalition government, which mainly included the huge investments that were mobilised, a reduction in power tariffs and speeding up of the Amaravati and Polavaram projects.
The TDP-JSP-BJP alliance provided stable governance, which was crucial for development, he said, and suggested to Ministers Nara Lokesh (IT & HRD) and T.G. Bharat (Industries) to introduce internships in industries for youth to gain the required employability skills.
MLAs N. Eswara Rao, Reddeppagari Madhavi Reddy, Bendalam Ashok, Vemireddy Prasanthi Reddy, M.S. Raju, Arimilli Radha Krishna, Md. Nazeer, Gouthu Sireeesha and B. Ramanjaneyulu spoke on the Chief Minister’s vision and the efforts being made by him along with Mr Modi and Mr. Pawan Kalyan to make a prosperous State.
