Prateek Yadav, the younger son of late Mulayam Singh Yadav and half-brother of Akhilesh Yadav, died in Lucknow on Wednesday at the age of 38.

According to official medical findings, the post-mortem examination confirmed that Prateek died due to cardiorespiratory collapse caused by a massive pulmonary thromboembolism.

Prateek was taken to Lucknow’s Civil Hospital around 6 am, where doctors declared him dead. Hospital officials said he showed no signs of life when brought in, with no pulse and fixed, dilated pupils. Only members of his household staff accompanied him to the hospital.

Sources said Prateek had been unwell for some time and was recently admitted to a private hospital in Lucknow. During that period, Akhilesh Yadav had also visited him. After his condition improved, he had returned home.

Earlier this year, Prateek and Aparna Yadav had publicly spoken about differences in their marriage before later announcing a reconciliation.

On January 19, Prateek posted a series of messages on Instagram alleging that Aparna had damaged his family ties and stated that he intended to seek a divorce. In the posts, he described her as “self-centred” and “driven by fame and influence”.

However, on January 28, he announced that the matter had been resolved mutually after discussions between the two. In a video shared on Instagram, Prateek said there was no longer any dispute between them. He later posted another video featuring Aparna with the caption: “Haters, go to hell.”

A few months ago, Prateek had also shared photographs of the family vacationing together on social media. Aparna Yadav currently serves as the vice-chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh Women’s Commission and is associated with the BJP.
