Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) Environmental Engineer Balaga Karunasri said on Monday that four digital air quality stations have been established, under the National Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Programme, across the Srikakulam district.

The air quality management stations were set up at the Municipal Corporation, District Cooperative Central Bank, Kushalapuram and the Pydibhimavaram industrial zone to monitor the air quality at differing times during the day.

The stations constantly monitor the level of pollutants such as Sulphur Dioxide, Nitrogen Oxides, Ammonia and others.

Ms. Karunasri said that the pollutants in the air at peak time were within the permissible limits.

A real-time water quality monitoring station was also established at Thamminaidupeta village of Burja mandal of the district to study the water quality in and around the area, she said, adding that the department was taking many initiatives to control pollution in industrial areas and other parts of the district.
