Apple is gearing up to unveil a significant Siri upgrade, allowing it to process multiple commands in a single prompt, a feature long absent compared to rivals like ChatGPT and Gemini. This multi-request capability, expected in iOS 27 and other upcoming OS versions, is a cornerstone for a broader Siri overhaul, promising more fluid, AI-driven interactions and deeper app integration.
Apple is working on a feature that would let Siri process several requests at once—without making users repeat themselves between each one. Bloomberg first reported the development, citing people familiar with the matter who asked not to be named. The capability is being built into iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27, all of which Apple plans to preview at its Worldwide Developers Conference on June 8. If it ships, users could ask Siri to check the weather, schedule a calendar event, and fire off a text message—all in a single prompt.Right now, Siri handles one request at a time. That's been a long-standing limitation and one of the reasons it's struggled to keep pace with newer AI assistants.
ChatGPT and Google's Gemini have been able to handle multi-part queries for a while now. Even Google's older voice assistant could do it.
Multi-command support is the backbone of the bigger Siri overhaul Apple has in the works
The multi-request feature isn't a standalone fix—it's foundational to more ambitious upgrades Apple has planned. Bloomberg notes it would enable things like pulling up a photo, editing it, and sending it to a contact all in one command. That kind of fluid, multi-step action is what Apple needs if it wants Siri to function more like a proper AI assistant.
The broader Siri revamp includes a standalone app, web access for summarising information (reportedly called World Knowledge Answers internally), and deeper integration with third-party apps beyond its current ChatGPT tie-up.
Apple may launch these features under a "Preview" tag—acknowledging they're still a work in progress
Some of the new Siri capabilities are already labelled "Preview" in internal testing, Bloomberg said, suggesting Apple could ship them in an unfinished state—similar to how it handled early Apple Intelligence features in 2024.Apple is separately testing an AI-assisted keyboard that offers alternative word suggestions, though no decision has been made on whether it'll actually ship.
