Shillong: A unit of the Assam Police joined the marching contingent at Meghalaya’s state-level 77th Republic Day celebrations at the Polo Grounds in Shillong, where governor CH Vijayashankar unfurled the national flag.“The marching contingents comprised the CRPF, BSF, District Executive Force, East Khasi Hills, Assam Police, 1st MLP Bn. NCC Boys & Girls, Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides, Phudmuri Presbyterian Secondary School, JNV, Mawphlang, BDW International School, Assam Rifles Public School, Kendriya Vidyalaya NEHU, Brass Band of Meghalaya Police, Border Wing Home Guards and Border Security Force,” an official record read.“In the march ast competition, Phudmuri Presbyterian Higher Secondary, Shillong bagged 1st prize, while BDW International School and Assam Rifles Public School bagged the second and third prizes respectively,” the statement said.Separately, Republic Day celebrations at the Lok Bhavan featured cultural programmes highlighting the heritage of NE states.“Traditional dances from across the northeast highlighted the region’s cultural diversity. Performances included Ka Shad Knia Sngi, Wangala (harvest dance) and Ka Chad Rep from Meghalaya; Satriya dance from Assam; Cheraw (bamboo dance) from Mizoram; Lai Haraoba folk dance from Manipur; Modse Warrior Victory Dance from Nagaland; Nyishi Rikham Pada from Arunachal Pradesh; Reang Lebang Boomani Folk Dance from Tripura; and Tamang Selo (Damphu Dance) from Sikkim.
