Defence Minister Richard Marles will visit India for the second Australia India Defence Ministers Dialogue with Rajnath Singh, highlighting deepening defence ties

Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Richard Marles will visit India for the second Australia-India Defence Ministers’ Dialogue, where he will hold talks with defence minister Rajnath Singh, Australia’s defence ministry said.

The meeting follows the inaugural dialogue held in Australia last October and reflects growing defence cooperation between the two countries.

Before arriving in India, Marles will attend the 23rd Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, an annual security forum organised by the International Institute for Strategic Studies that brings together leaders and defence officials from across the Indo-Pacific.

During the forum, Marles is expected to speak on regional maritime security issues and hold meetings with global and regional defence counterparts.

“Australia and India are top-tier security partners. I look forward to meeting defence minister Rajnath Singh to further strengthen our defence partnership," Marles said in the statement.

The two countries have expanded defence ties since elevating their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2020.
