Ayodhya Police will begin questioning five accused in the alleged Ram Temple donation theft case from Sunday as the Special Investigation Team (SIT) intensifies its probe, police sources said.

The accused to be interrogated in jail are Anukalp Mishra, Ramshankar Yadav alias Tinnu, Lav-Kush Mishra, Karunesh Pandey and Manish Yadav.

The interrogation follows an application filed by Ayodhya Circle Officer (CO) Ashutosh Tiwari, who is leading the investigation, before the court of Special Judge (Prevention of Corruption Act) Rajat Verma.

Police had earlier questioned another accused, Avinash Shukla, in jail before securing his police custody for further interrogation.

Officials said the statements of the five accused will be recorded during the questioning. Depending on the information, the SIT may subsequently seek police custody of the accused, one at a time, for further interrogation.

According to police sources, the investigation is progressing in a phased manner, with investigators questioning each accused individually to establish the sequence of events and determine the specific role played by each person in the alleged theft.

The SIT is also expected to question Gopal Rao and Anil Mishra next week. Investigators believe their statements could prove crucial in piecing together the alleged conspiracy.

Police may move the court seeking custody of additional accused if further interrogation is considered necessary.

Sources said Avinash Shukla, one of the main accused in the case, has been cooperating with investigators and is responding to questions during interrogation.

Investigators said most of the accused are between 22 and 28 years of age and appear to be under considerable pressure. According to police sources, they have appeared nervous during questioning and are cooperating with the investigation.

The probe has also revealed that the accused allegedly gathered at a location near Parikrama Marg after carrying out the thefts, where the stolen donation money was allegedly divided among themselves.

The SIT is aiming to complete the questioning of all key accused and persons connected to the case over the coming week as it continues to trace the alleged flow of the stolen funds and establish the full extent of the conspiracy.
