 Mastermind, 4 others arrested

Indore: More than a month after Bhind resident Abhi alias Abhitendra Tomar was shot dead outside Gulab Bagh petrol pump in Indore’s Lasudia area, police arrested the alleged mastermind in the case, Gulshan Yadav, and four others involved in the murder.Police said that the May 21 murder of Abhitendra was a revenge killing orchestrated by Gulshan to avenge death of his brother, Vishnu, who had been killed in an earlier gang rivalry. According to investigators, Gulshan, along with Chandrakant alias Dilu Lahariya, Gaurav Jatav, Piyush alias Daddu Gurjar and Satyabir alias Satte Jatav, stopped Abhitendra outside the petrol pump around 10.30 pm and shot him dead.Following the murder, an SIT was constituted under senior police officers to trace the accused, while a reward of Rs 20,000 was announced for Gulshan’s arrest.

Four of the accused were arrested between May 26 and June 20, but Gulshan remained on the run for over a month, allegedly changing locations to evade arrest.Police said that Gulshan was arrested near Vijay Nagar after receiving information that he had come to Indore to seek anticipatory bail. During questioning, police said that he confessed he and his associates had planned and executed Abhitendra’s murder to avenge his brother’s killing.

Investigators said that after the crime, Gulshan fled to Ahmedabad with co-accused Gaurav Jatav before travelling alone by train towards Rameswaram to avoid arrest.Police have obtained Gulshan’s custodial remand. He has 26 criminal cases registered against him, including that of murder, attempt to murder, robbery, dacoity, extortion and Arms Act offences in Bhind, Gwalior and other districts, while other accused also face multiple cases of violent crime.During investigation, police seized a motorcycle, a .315 bore firearm and two country-made pistols.Six others — Naresh Jatav, Bhanu Gurjar, Gaurav Maurya alias Sanju, Tulsiram Jatav, Rajendra Sharma and Preeti Lahariya — have also been arrested for allegedly providing shelter and logistical support to the accused.
