The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to unveil its manifesto for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections on Friday, with early indications suggesting a campaign built around the theme of “bhoy vs bharosa" (fear versus trust). The party is expected to pitch a governance model centred on security, stability and public confidence, positioning itself as an alternative to the ruling All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Among the likely highlights of the manifesto are expanded welfare schemes for women, job creation initiatives targeting unemployed youth, and a promise to implement the 7th Pay Commission for government employees. The BJP is also expected to outline plans to boost industrial growth by attracting fresh investments and reviving stalled projects.

In addition, the party is likely to emphasise stronger border management and internal security measures to address concerns around illegal infiltration, in coordination with central agencies.

Amit Shah In Kolkata Today

Earlier today, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that he would unveil the party’s manifesto in Kolkata later in the day, claiming that the poll-bond state “seeks change," a reference to leadership. Sharing details about his planned events for the day, the Union Minister said he would hold rallies in Debra and West Medinipur and a roadshow in Kharagpur.

“Bengal, weary of TMC, now seeks change. Today in Kolkata, I will release BJP’s ‘Sankalp Patra’ on the basis of freeing Bengal from TMC’s ‘reign of terror’. Thereafter, I am eager to connect with the brothers and sisters of the state through a public meeting in Debra, West Medinipur, and a roadshow in Kharagpur," Shah tweeted.

Stage Set For High-Stakes Poll Battle In Bengal

The upcoming election is shaping up to be a high-stakes contest between the BJP and the TMC. Over the past decade, the TMC has maintained a stronghold in the state, winning consecutive Assembly elections and consolidating its support base through welfare schemes and regional appeal. However, the BJP has steadily expanded its footprint in West Bengal, emerging as the principal challenger by making significant gains in recent elections, particularly in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls and subsequent state contests.

With both parties sharpening their narratives—TMC focusing on welfare and regional identity, and BJP stressing governance, security and development—the 2026 Assembly elections are expected to witness an intense and closely watched political battle.

Voting for the West Bengal Assembly elections will be held in two phases on April 23 and April 29. The counting of votes will take place on May 4.
