Burglar escapes after confrontation with doctor’s son

Patna: A burglar abandoned a bag containing stolen valuables and a pistol after allegedly attacking a doctor’s son during a confrontation outside a house in Saharsa district in the early hours of Tuesday.

Police have launched a manhunt to trace the accused.The incident occurred around 2am at the residence of Dr Umesh Kumar in Kanu Tola under Simri Bakhtiyarpur police station. Police said the accused had entered the house and was escaping with stolen valuables when Umesh’s son, Om Bhagat, returned after attending a wedding and confronted him.During the scuffle, the accused allegedly struck Om on the head with the butt of a firearm before fleeing.

He abandoned a bag containing the stolen articles and also dropped the pistol. Police recovered the weapon, its magazine and six live cartridges. Om was admitted to the sub-divisional hospital for treatment.The family claimed the burglars stole about Rs 3 lakh in cash and jewellery worth over Rs 8 lakh.Simri Bakhtiyarpur SDPO Mukesh Kumar Thakur said the pistol and cartridges had been seized as evidence. “We are conducting a thorough investigation into the case. The accused will be identified soon, and strict legal action will be taken against everyone involved,” Mukesh said.
