Car knocks down five students before crashing into tree in Greater Noida, driver detained

TOINoida: A speeding car ploughed into a group of students near GL Bajaj Institute in the Knowledge Park III area on Monday evening, injuring five, two of them critically, before smashing into a tree.The red Toyota Glanza first struck a motorcycle carrying two students, one of them a woman, hurling them onto the APJ Abdul Kalam Road. Eyewitnesses said the driver appeared to lose control after the initial impact. The vehicle then hit three more women students walking along the roadside before crashing into a tree.The injured include a student from Sharda University, who was riding the motorcycle. Three others injured are students from GL Bajaj College.All five were rushed to Sharda Hospital by police. Doctors said three students were discharged following primary treatment, but two remain hospitalised and are said to be in serious condition.Police detained the driver at the scene. Preliminary investigation indicates that the Toyota driver was speeding. A senior police officer said they were reviewing CCTV footage from cameras in the vicinity to establish the full sequence of events. No FIR was registered till the filing of the report.Knowledge Park is an education hub and is home to several private universities and engineering colleges, and has seen recurring concerns over road safety and fast-moving traffic along its arterial stretches.
