Carlos Alcaraz is now just a couple of victories away from securing what will be the sixth Grand Slam title of his professional career. The Spaniard on Tuesday put on quite a show in sweeping aside the challenge of Jiri Lehecka in the US Open 2025 men’s singles quarterfinals to win the contest 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 and enter the semifinals.
Alcaraz now faces a big hurdle in 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in the US Open semifinals next. He has now reached the semifinals of all four major tournaments in 20205.
In his win over the 20th seed Lehecka, Alcaraz became the youngest ever tennis player – aged 22 years and 111 days – since 1978 to reach men’s singles finals on all three surfaces of the Grand Slams in multiple seasons (2023 and 2025).
Alcaraz is aiming to win the second US Open title of his career having last won it in 2022 as a 19-year-old.
Alcaraz Has Eyes On Becoming World No. 1
Should he win the title, Alcaraz will reclaim the top spot in men’s singles rankings from his rival Jannik Sinner.
“It’s really difficult not to think about it," Alcaraz said. “Every time that I step on the court, I am trying not to think about it. If I think about the No. 1 spot too much, I think I’m going to put pressure on myself and I just don’t want to do that. I just want to step on the court, try to do my things, try to follow my goals in the match and try to enjoy as much as I can. The No. 1 is there, but I’m trying not to think so much about it."
