Chile footballer Jordhy Thompson proposes to girlfriend three years after he was charged with her attempted murder (via Camila/Instagram)
Chilean footballer Jordhy Thompson has announced his engagement to longtime partner Camila Sepúlveda, three years after he was charged with her attempted murder in Chile. The 20-year-old, who currently plays for FC Orenburg in Russia, shared photos on Instagram showing the proposal taking place in Moscow’s famous Red Square.
The couple appeared happy as Thompson went down on one knee during the romantic moment.The announcement quickly drew attention online because of the pair’s troubled history. Thompson faced serious legal charges in 2023 after prosecutors accused him of violently assaulting and attempting to strangle Sepúlveda during an altercation in Santiago. Despite the controversy and ongoing judicial proceedings, the couple later reunited and moved to Russia together.
They are now raising their young son Valentín, alongside Sepúlveda’s older son Bruno from a previous relationship, while continuing their life abroad.

Jordhy Thompson revealed the engagement through a series of Instagram pictures shared with his more than 200,000 followers. The footballer proposed in Moscow’s Red Square, where the couple celebrated the special moment together. Camila Sepúlveda later posted that what began as a simple walk through the city turned into a life-changing occasion after she accepted the proposal.
Thompson also expressed his happiness, saying he looked forward to spending his future with her and their children.
Their relationship has remained under public scrutiny due to repeated allegations of domestic violence. In early 2023, a video circulated online that allegedly showed Thompson assaulting Sepúlveda. While he was still playing for Chilean club Colo-Colo. The incident led to a restraining order after she reported the matter to authorities.Later that year, prosecutors accused Thompson of carrying out another violent attack and attempting to suffocate his partner. He was arrested in Santiago and charged with frustrated femicide, a legal term in Chile referring to the attempted killing of a woman, along with contempt of court for allegedly violating previous legal restrictions.After spending time in preventive custody, Thompson was released under strict conditions that included house arrest and a no-contact order.
His football career later continued after Russian club Orenburg secured his transfer following a legal agreement that temporarily lifted his travel restrictions.Sepúlveda eventually reunited with Thompson in Russia, where the couple welcomed their son in 2025. Reactions to the engagement on social media have been divided. Some fans congratulated the pair, while others questioned the decision because of the past allegations.
