Massive boulder falls on car; heavy rains turning state roads into death traps

NEW DELHI: Uttarakhand’s monsoon fury is wreaking havoc on state roads. A massive boulder crashed onto a moving car on the Nainital–Haldwani highway on Tuesday as continuous rains fueled landslides and chaos across the region.According to reports, two officials from the state health department were traveling in the vehicle when it was struck by the massive rock.Luckily, the duo escaped with minor injuries, although the front portion of the vehicle was completely wrecked due to the impact.

The incident occurred between two villages near Bhujiaghat when a large boulder suddenly rolled down the mountain and struck the car.Continuous rainfall over the past two days in Nainital and surrounding areas has disrupted normal life and triggered multiple landslides.Boulders, debris, rocks, and even fallen trees have been reported in several locations, including near Dolmar, making roads extremely risky for commuters.Authorities have urged people to travel only for essential purposes, as the Meteorological Department has predicted continued heavy rainfall and landslides in the coming days.Currently, the Nainital-Haldwani route has been cleared and made operational, though caution is advised.
