Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has requested Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to sanction an Indian Institute of Management to Telangana and also additional Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya schools in identified areas in the State.

The Chief Minister who called on the Union Minister at Parliament on Tuesday brought to the notice of Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan about the rapid growth of Hyderabad in technology, life sciences, aerospace, defence, logistics, advanced manufacturing and other sectors as also the urgent need for establishing an IIM in the State Capital. The Union government established 21 IIMs in 19 States and a Union Territory and there was need for allotting the premier institution to Telangana too.

He informed the Union Minister that 200 acres of land required for the establishment of the IIM was already identified at the University of Hyderabad campus and a facility of transit campus was also ready to commence classes immediately. The State government was prepared to grant necessary permissions for the establishment of the IIM and provide required facilities if the Centre sanctioned the institution.

Mr. Revanth Reddy explained about the air, road and rail connectivity from Hyderabad to all parts of the country as well as the conducive atmosphere which resulted in producing prominent personalities in diverse fields. Establishment of IIM would improve opportunities for students from poor and middle classes of the State.

He urged the Union Government to sanction nine new Kendriya Vidyalayas and 16 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas in line with the increased number of districts in the State. Setting up of Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya schools would enable provision of quality education to students hailing from rural areas and the ever expanding urban areas.

Accordingly, the Centre should establish Kendriya Vidyalayas in Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Kamareddy, Jogulamba Gadwal, Narayanpet, Nagarkurnool, Suryapet, Vikarabad and Nirmal districts. Hanamkonda, Jangaon, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Jogulamba Gadwal, Mahabubabad, Medchal Malkajgiri, Medak, Mulugu, Narayanpet, Peddapalli, Rajanna Sircilla, Vikarabad, Wanaparthy, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Nirmal and Adilabad districts required Navodaya Vidyalayas.

The State government was ready to provide necessary land and other facilities for the establishment of these institutions, he added.
