Amid the various political parties, India has got two new political outfits — the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and the National Parasitic Front (NPF).
The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) and the National Parasitic Front (NPF) are viral, satirical online political movements created by Indian Gen Z social media users to protest systemic corruption and unemployment.
Neither group is an officially recognised political party under the Election Commission of India. Instead, they function as participatory digital resistance groups using “meme-politics" to channel youth frustration.
What led to the trend?
The movement erupted in mid-May 2026 following controversial remarks attributed to Supreme Court Chief Justice Surya Kant during a court hearing. He reportedly compared certain unemployed youth who turn to social media, journalism, and Right to Information (RTI) activism to “cockroaches" and “parasites" attacking the system. The Chief Justice later clarified that his remarks were misquoted and targeted individuals using fake degrees to enter noble professions, not unemployed youth in general.
Rather than standard online outrage, digital creators and youth decided to “own the insult," turning the derogatory terms into symbols of collective political venting.
Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)
Founded on May 16, 2026, by digital creator Abhijeet Dipke, the CJP brands itself as the “Voice of the Lazy and Unemployed". It champions the idea that the youth are a resilient, yet overlooked, underclass under the motto: “Secular, Socialist, Democratic, Lazy“. Membership, often tongue-in-cheek, focuses on chronically online, rant-prone youth.
Despite the satire, the group hosts a 5-point manifesto tackling serious issues, including:
- Banning post-retirement roles for Chief Justices.
- Implementing strict anti-defection laws.
- Ensuring 50% reservation for women in Parliament.
- Canceling licenses of certain corporate-owned media houses.
- Accountability for student exam scams.
National Parasitic Front (NPF)
Formed as a satirical counterpart, the NPF leverages “revolutionary absurdism" to critique public institutions, framing ordinary citizens as forced survivors in a broken system. Their mission centers on “forcing change from within" by challenging systemic flaws. They demand, among other things, a criminal-free Parliament, better infrastructure, and reliable public utilities.
Political Impact and Reach
This digital phenomenon has garnered significant traction, with the CJP reporting over 80,000 sign-ups via its website. The movement has even attracted attention from mainstream politicians like TMC’s Mahua Moitra and Kirti Azad on X. The protest escalated beyond the digital space when young volunteers in Delhi held a peaceful demonstration, cleaning up the Yamuna River while dressed as cockroaches, illustrating that constructive criticism is not synonymous with destruction.
