The MGR Nagar Police has registered a case in connection with the death of a college student under suspicious circumstances after he lost his money through cyber fraud.

Police sources said Subhash had recently planned to purchase a car on instalment and searched for loans through a mobile application. He came across an advertisement that offered a loan of ₹85,000 in exchange for an advance payment of ₹35,000. After he clicked the link, he was contacted by a man who identified himself as Santhosh, and was told to transfer the amount first to process the loan.
Believing the offer to be genuine, Subhash transferred the money in instalments. When he later attempted to contact the person, the call went unanswered. He then realised that he was cheated and informed his parents about the incident. He was distressed when his parents questioned him over the loss of money, police sources said.
The MGR Nagar police rushed to the spot, recovered the body, and sent it to a hospital for a post-mortem examination.
