After US President Donald Trump issued a fresh ultimatum, the Iranian-backed Iraqi group Kataib Hezbollah has warned of attacks on American And Israeli energy infrastructure if there are attempts to forcibly reopen the Strait of Hormuz, according to Press TV.
Abu Hussein al-Hamidawi, Secretary-General of Kataib Hezbollah, said any forced move to reopen the strait would lead to severe consequences.
“The enemies should be aware that any attempt to forcibly reopen the Strait of Hormuz will result in the complete destruction of every oil and gas platform or facility," he said.
In a statement on Sunday, he added that the strait would not be open to “enemies" and warned against the use of force.
Al-Hamidawi said the current situation leaves no middle ground. “They must realise the equation of today: either security for all or security for none, and either prosperity for all or everyone is deprived of it," he said. He also criticised attacks on civilian infrastructure as the conflict enters its fifth week and stressed the need for financial donations to support Lebanon.
Iran signals ‘irreversible’ changes
Amid the developments, the Iranian Navy said on Sunday that the Strait of Hormuz has undergone irreversible changes and will not return to its earlier state, especially for adversaries such as the United States and Israel.
The naval command said recent events have created a new reality where outside powers, led by Washington, can no longer freely influence the region.
According to Press TV, Iran is working towards a new regional security structure in the Persian Gulf. This approach is based on the idea that stability should be maintained by countries in the region, without the presence of external forces.
Preparations include increased naval deployment, advanced monitoring systems and coordinated rapid-response measures aimed at protecting Iranian waters and ensuring energy flows through the strait.
Strait of Hormuz access and ceasefire talks
Iranian authorities have indicated that the Strait of Hormuz remains open to all except vessels linked to the US, Israel and their allies.
The statements come as tensions rise following Trump’s warning to unleash “hell" if Iran keeps the strait closed.
At the same time, Axios reported that the US, Iran and regional mediators are discussing terms for a possible 45-day ceasefire that could lead to a permanent end to the war.
